Sinquefield Cup: Caruana scores, MVL misses
Fabiano Caruana scored the sole win in the third round of Grand Chess Tour Sinquefield Cup 2025. He defeated Alireza Firouzja (FRA) smoothly to move to 2/3. Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (FRA) had a great opportunity to win against Levon Aronian (USA). However, he missed it and the game ended in a draw. The World Champion, D Gukesh and R Praggnanandhhaa drew against Sam Sevian (USA) and Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB) respectively. 34...c4? did not help Black's case in an already difficult position. 35.bxc4 Qb4 36.Qc2 Qxc4 37.Qxc4 Bxc4 38.d6 and White went on to win the game in the next few moves.
Vachier-Lagrave - Aronian
35...Qd8? created an opportunity for White 36.Qe5+- Qg5 37.Rb1 f4 38.Qb8+ Ke7 now 39.c4 is what White needed to play to win the game. After a few checks, White played 42.c4, traded queens and then captured the bishop. Practically it was not easy to convert the advantage any longer and the game ended in a draw.

Schedule and Format
Sinquefield Cup will have one round per day from 18th to 27th August. Rest day is on Saturday 23rd August. Each round starts at 12 p.m. local time, 10:30 p.m. IST. It will be a 10-player Round Robin event. GCT Playoffs if required will take place on 28th August.
