Cheniram Pegu conquers 48th All Assam Inter District Rating Open 2025
Cheniram Pegu (Dibrugarh) scored 8/9 to win 48th All Assam Inter-District Rating Open 2025. He finished a half point ahead of the rest. Five players - Santanu Borpatra Gohain (Sivasagar), Iftikar Alom Mazumder (Cachar), Madhab Sarma (Darrang), Tanmay Rajbongshi (Guwahati) and Neelabh Jyoti Borthakur (Jorhat) scored 7.5/9 each. They secured second to sixth place respectively, according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund was ₹150000. Top three prizes were ₹50000, ₹30000 and ₹20000 along with a trophy each. Debarati Dey (Cachar) scored an unbeaten 4.5/5 to became champion in the Women's tournament. The top three prizes were ₹3000, ₹2500 and ₹2000 with a trophy each. Debarati Dey becomes champion in the Women
Four players - Yuwan Das (Tinsukia), Tanmay Rajbongshi (Guwahat), Madhab Sarma (Darrang) and Cheniram Pegu (Dibrugarh) were the leaders 7/8, heading into the last round. Cheniram defeated Yuwan to become the champion. Abhigyan Goswami (Jorhat) lost to Santanu who secured second place. Iftikar won against Dhruv Phukan (Dibrugarh) to finish third.
Debarati Dey (Cachar) made a perfect start 4/4. She had a full point lead going into the last round. A draw was enough for her to become the champion. That's what she did against Junmoni Gogoi (Jorhat). Tanisha A R Som (Jorhat) defeated Pragya Devi (Sivasagar) to secure second place. Kumkum Buragohain (Jorhat) lost to Nirali Gogoi (Lakhimpur) who finished third.
A total of 283 players took part from various districts of Assam. The five-day nine-round Rating tournament was organized by Jorhat District Chess Association at Jagannath Barooah College in Jorhat, Assam from 20th to 24th July 2025. The time control was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment.
